Today is Michael Jackson’s birthday. He would have been 55! I’m still trying to wrap my mind around the fact that he died at the age of 50, but in 2009. (He died on June 25th, 2009; born on August 29th, 1958.) If you count the years, it’s technically only been four years since his death (since it’s 2013), but he’s 55…. This is interesting. Haha I’m sure I’ll figure it out some day.
Anyway, for the same reasons as last year, I’m not throwing a party. Mainly for the reasons that 1) no one would come, and 2) those who might come would think I’m insane and would complain about it, so…. Yeah, no party. However, that doesn’t mean I’m not celebrating! Here are some of the things I have done to honor MJ today:
-I’ve dressed as close to some of Michael’s signature clothing as my wardrobe will allow.
-I’ve played his albums all day – that includes Jackson 5, Jacksons, and his solo albums. Everything. After all, he worked hard for all he sang, so why shouldn’t they be played for him on his birthday?!
-I watched Moonwalker…which is still my favorite MJ movie. I also own This Is It but some of the things that went into the This Is It tour have put a bad taste in my mouth for it…so yeah, Moonwalker it is!
-I put up our “Happy Birthday” banner, and wrote Happy Birthday to him on our whiteboards. (We’re homeschoolers, ‘k? We have whiteboards. They are teaching necessities.)
-I made him a birthday cake…though considering I’m not artistic, I could only write “MJ” on the top…but even that didn’t work out so well. Haha!
Now I will complete this post with some of my favorite photos of him, and one more of my getup! 😉 Happy Birthday, Michael! As in your words:
Born To Amuse, To Inspire, To Delight
Here One Day
Gone One Night…Gone Too Soon.
(Taken from his song, “Gone Too Soon”)
You changed the world in ways no one else ever could or will – except for Jesus, that is. You set the standard of all music, dance, choreography, and style, and no one will ever match you. People try, but there will never be another you. Rest in peace, MJ. I miss you.
Do you see a man skillful in his work? He will stand before kings; he will not stand before obscure men.
Oh sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth!
For nothing will be impossible with God.
